Car hits Texas trooper with several hundred pounds of marijuana

A car that struck a Texas trooper was later found abandoned and full of marijuana.

The driver of the car struck Sgt. Elizabeth Barney near Rio Grande City Wednesday night before speeding off. Barney managed to shoot out one of the vehicle’s tires.

The car was later found abandoned, with 14 bundles of marijuana in the trunk, which weighed about 300 pounds. Officials estimated the cannabis to be worth over $100,000.

No arrests have been made. The trooper was released from the hospital on Thursday.
