Hemp legislation scheduled for hearing in Texas legislature
Two piece of hemp legislation have been scheduled to be heard by committee in the Texas legislature.
Both HB 557 and HB 1322 will have open hearings where citizens can testify either in support or against the legislation on Wednesday, March 18 in the E1.010 Hearing Room at 8 a.m.
HB 557 will legalize hemp for research purposes by institutions of higher education, while HB 1322 will fully legalize hemp for Texas farmers.
In order to testify, people will need to complete Witness Registration on the day of the hearing. People can choose to testify or just sign up as a witness in support of the bill. Each person will have 3 minutes to speak and can bring printed copies of information for the committee members, 12 in total.
Three bills will be heard and it is unknown how long the hearing will last. Organizers are urging people to show up promptly.
