Killeen teen killed after trying to rob marijuana dealer
A Texas teenager has died after attempting to rob a man who agreed to sell him marijuana.
Marcus Brown, 23, of Harker Heights is currently in Bell County Jail and has been charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver after police arrested him in connection with the shooting of 15-year-old Courtrell Jackson.
Brown picked up Jackson and the two drove around before Brown stated that Jackson pulled a gun on him and fired. The shot missed and Brown fired back, hitting Jackson, who then bailed out of the vehicle. Officers found him lying on a sidewalk in the 1300 block of Fox Creek Drive, he died later at the hospital.
Brown was arrested shortly after and told police that he sells marijuana. A large amount of currency was found on him. It was unclear whether any cannabis was found.
Further charges could be brought against him. Jackson turned 15 on December 8.
Proponents of marijuana legalization argue that such incidents can be prevented by selling cannabis in stores to get the plant off the streets and checking IDs to prevent underage sales.
A recent poll shows 58% of Texans in support of legalizing and regulating the sale and consumption of marijuana like alcohol.
